Unavoidable Colombo, Sri Lanka!

I don't like Colombo, period! But it's unavoidable. Its where everything happens in my country. If you want to get anything done, like repairing your old camera or repairing your old hiking boots.

Uutuwankanda Hike - A Sri Lankan Adventure

Uthuwan Kanda is a small hill in the district of Kegalle, Sri Lanka. It is easily accessible by A1 road. This is an entry level hike and recommended for anybody who's willing to experience a little bit of adventure. I've been to the top of this hill so many times but this is the first time I'm taking the hike with my family. There's a huge history behind the hill and the surrounding area. But that's for another time. Let's just enjoy the hike.
Enjoy.

Summer

It's summer here. The sun is brutal, the sweat is disgusting, the dust is  choking the lungs. But it's also the New Year season. It's the season for family unity, sharing and fun.

Sri Lankan Railway Museum Tour

Kadugannawa, Sri Lanka houses one of the railway museums of the country. The railways were introduced to Sri Lanka by the British in the 19th century to carry goods between the coastal areas and the central hill country. The museum preserves that heritage for the future generations.

Enjoy.

Climbing Dawson Tower

Dawson tower was built by the British in remembrance of Captain Dawson. He was a brilliant civil engineer who was put in charge of building the Colombo-Kandy highway. He began his work in 1820 under the most difficult conditions. The project was plagued by disease, difficult terrain and mishaps. Cpt. Dawson passed away in 1829 and this tower was built to remember him and his services.

The tower is made out of, mainly, bricks. The walls are very thick because of that. There are no windows therefore the air inside is frigid. The views are amazing and on a clear day they say you can see Colombo city from up there.

Brave Wilderness Trapjaw Ant

Trapjaw Ant has one of the most painful bites in the insect world. The pain is similar to puncturing the skin with a red hot pin. You don't want to mess with this little critter if you ever encounter one. But, I was stung before and I'm used to the pain. So I'm getting bitten for the vlog's sake.

Stupid, am I not?

Extracting coconut oil

We Sri Lankans consume coconut oil more than any other oil. The best way to get virgin coconut oil is to extract them yourself, which is not a job for everybody. I had some extra coconuts and I dried them up and went to the mill and extracted some fresh coconut oil.

Here's how I did it.

Old tech gadgets are the best

You don't need to use the latest and greatest gadgets the market offers you. The old tech still rocks. I use it myself. Just have a look.
